Anime culture is Japan’s world-class content, and in overseas surveys, 56% in Asia and 75% in Europe replied that they were interested in Japan because of anime, manga, and games. The number of tourists visiting Japan from overseas has been increasing which record 31 million+ in 2018, and the needs of travelers are diversifying. Among them, the “Anime Tourism”, where anime fans go around the location used in the anime, has become a hot topic. In recent years, however, troubles between tourists who visiting such locations and local people have become conspicuous, raising concerns about “tourism pollution”.
Recently, “Sustainable Tourism” is considered an important aspect of the Japanese tourism industry. The company and the association have developed official anime tours in cooperation with the local government to tackle the issue. Through this initiative, we will strengthen Anime Tourism in the local area so that international anime fans can enjoy their travel, as well as sustainable tourism can be achieved.
